Competition drives progress.
Competing beats everything
In a clinical trial of 602 people, the group that competed with friends walked 100 more miles on average than the control group — outperforming everyone who collaborated, supported each other, or tracked solo.
STEP UP Randomized Trial, 2019 ↗Competition builds consistency
Most motivation fades after the study ends. In the same trial, the competition group was the only one still showing significantly higher results 12 weeks later. The others dropped off. They kept going.
STEP UP follow-up, 2019 ↗Friends push you the hardest
Research found that competing with someone whose opinion you care about — a real friend, not an anonymous username — produces measurably better performance. The closer the relationship, the harder you try.

Compete on any goal.
Start from a ready-made goal or write your own. If you can count it, you can race your friends on it.
Choose your race format.
Same goal, three different ways to settle it. Pick the one that makes the fairest fight.
Race to a shared milestone
Everyone chases the same number, and the first to reach it wins. First to invest $10k. First to 100 pull-ups. Chasing a time or a golf score? First one under the number takes it.
Race to different targets
Everyone sets their own starting line and their own target, so a beginner and a veteran can race fairly. Progress is measured as how far you've come toward your number — first to 100% wins.
Best by deadline
No target — just a date. Log as you go, and whoever's standing highest when the clock runs out wins. Most pages read by month end. Fastest 5km by October 1st — lowest wins when it's a time.
Everything you need to settle it.
Any metric
Money, kilometers, reps, pages, minutes, fastest times — if you can count it, you can compete on it.
Live standings
Rankings update the moment anyone logs. Always know exactly where you stand.
Stakes
Loser buys the round. Loser posts the forfeit. Set the terms and let pride do the rest.
Photo proof
Optional screenshots and snaps keep everyone honest — or at least entertaining.
